Synopsis Examples--The Wedding Wager
Yes. I know it's romance. (I happen to like the genre.) Ms. Hale's sample synopses are bar-none, the best examples I've found so far (on the web, anyway). There's plenty of advice available on how to write a synopsis, but rarely any good examples. Ms. Hale provides an example of a short--one page--synopsis and a longer, detailed version for the same manuscript.

Print resources that have been helpful to me.

The Elements of Style, William Strunk Jr. and E.B. White, 4th Ed.

The Sell Your Novel Tool Kit, Elizabeth Lyon--A standout among similar books because Ms. Lyons provides many examples of successful query letters and synopses.

Plot, Ansen Dibell--A terrific little book for writers of long and short fiction.

The Weekend Novelist, Robert J. Ray--Not just for weekend writers, this book is loaded with exercises that will jump start the novel writing process.

On Writing, A Memoir of the Craft, Stephen King

Comics and Sequential Art and Graphic Storytelling & Narrative, Will Eisner--As the title imply, focused on graphic storytelling. But, offers insight to all storytellers, regardless of the medium.

Miscellaneous.

Esquire.    Yeah, the men's magazine. Filled with delicious insight into the male mind and...good writing.

National Geographic Magazine.   Because of the abundance of gorgeous photography, the writing is tight, with vivid description.
